OmniPad privacy policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
OmniPad is a study notebook for iPad. This page explains what it collects, why, and who can see it.
Who is responsible
OmniPad is made and run by an independent developer in Canada. The owner of OmniPad is the person in charge of protecting the personal information described here, including under Québec’s Law 25. Contact: tryomnipad@gmail.com
Age
OmniPad is for people 18 and older, and you confirm that you are when you sign in. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 is using OmniPad, write to us and we will delete what we hold about them.
What OmniPad collects
- Your account. You sign in with Apple, Google, or an emailed one-time code. OmniPad keeps your email (if the provider shares it; Apple lets you hide it), the name you typed during setup, and an identifier from your sign-in provider. This stays on your iPad. We never see your password.
- Your notes. Notebooks, handwriting, text, pictures, PDFs, recordings and tutor conversations are stored on your iPad. If iCloud is on, they sync to the private part of your own iCloud account, which nobody else, including us, can read. Deleted notebooks and pages stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
- The AI tutor. When you ask the tutor a question, the question and the page, image or text you ask about (or, for exam prep, the pages you choose) are sent through OmniPad’s server to our AI provider, Google, to write an answer. Before the first use the app explains this and asks you to agree. We pay for the paid service, whose terms say Google does not use your content to train its models. Google may keep the content for a limited time to detect abuse, as its terms describe. Our server does not keep the content of your questions or answers, only that a request happened, how large it was and when. It does see your IP address, and its host (Vercel) keeps request logs, without content, for up to 30 days.
- Your plan. Subscriptions are bought through Apple, which handles payment; we never see your card or Apple ID. With each tutor question your iPad sends Apple’s signed record of your subscription so our server can count your monthly AI credits and any credits you bought.
- Lecture recordings (Pro). Audio is recorded with your microphone permission and stays on your iPad. Transcripts are made on your iPad. A summary sends the transcript, never the audio, to the tutor in the same way as above.
- Anonymous usage statistics. OmniPad counts a few anonymous moments, such as finishing setup or starting a free week, using a random install identifier that our server scrambles and that is not linked to you. It keeps daily totals only, deleted after 120 days. Turn this off in Settings › Privacy.
- Crash reports. If the app crashes, it sends the kind of crash and the names of the code that was running, never anything you wrote. The same Settings switch turns this off.
- Feedback you send. If you write to us from Settings, we receive your message, the reply address you choose to give, any screenshot you pick, and your app and iPad version. We use it only to answer you.
Cookies
OmniPad sets no cookies and has no advertising or tracking. The built-in browser and video windows work like a normal browser: the sites you visit there set their own cookies on your iPad, and OmniPad does not read them. Settings › Browser signs you out of Google and clears the browser history.
Backups
Back up my library saves your notes to a file in a place you choose, through the iPad’s Files app. OmniPad does not upload it anywhere. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust.
Community
Community and friend invites (which would store your first name and subscription number on our server) are not available at launch. If either is turned on later, it will be optional, and this policy will be updated before it is.
Services that process your information
OmniPad uses these companies, each only for the purpose shown and under its own privacy terms. Some are in the United States, so your information may be processed there.
- Apple: sign in, the App Store, iCloud, notifications and crash reports.
- Google: the AI tutor, and sign in with Google if you choose it.
- Vercel: hosts OmniPad’s server.
- Upstash: the server’s database for credit balances and anonymous counters, keyed by scrambled codes, never names or emails.
- Resend: sends sign-in codes and delivers feedback and crash reports to us.
We do not sell your data and do not share it with anyone for their own purposes.
We handle your information to provide the service you asked for, and with your consent where the app asks for it, such as the tutor’s first-use agreement and the microphone.
How long things are kept
Your notes stay on your iPad and in your iCloud until you delete them. On our server: sign-in code hashes 10 minutes, rate-limit counters hours to days, daily usage totals 120 days, credit balances up to two years after last use, and feedback until the conversation is done. Removing OmniPad from your iPad removes everything it kept there.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, withdraw a consent you gave, object to how we use it, or receive a copy of it in a portable format, by writing to the address above. We answer within 30 days. You can also delete your account in Settings › Account & plan, which clears it from your iPad and asks Apple to forget OmniPad’s sign-in. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your local privacy regulator, such as the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and say so in the app or on our website before the change applies.
